What is the RAD?
The Royal Academy of Dance and RAD ballet grades
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the world's leading ballet teaching and examining organisations. Its graded syllabus gives children a clear, step-by-step path through classical ballet, building technique, musicality and confidence one grade at a time.
At JT Dance, children learn RAD ballet from Grade 1 to Grade 7. Classes are split by grade, so your child learns alongside dancers at the same stage.

Optional RAD exams with a visiting examiner
RAD exams are a great way to mark progress, but they are always optional. When it's exam time, Miss Jenna prepares each dancer in class, and a visiting RAD examiner comes to us, roughly every 12 to 18 months.

Where RAD ballet can lead
Past JT Dance pupils have gone on to full-time training at leading dance colleges, all starting with small, once-a-week classes in Fearnhead.

Does my child have to take RAD exams?
No. Exams are optional. Your child can enjoy their ballet classes and keep progressing without taking them.
Where and when are RAD exams held?
A visiting RAD examiner comes to us, roughly every 12 to 18 months. Miss Jenna will let you know when the next exams are planned.
How do I know if my child is ready for an exam?
Miss Jenna prepares every dancer in class and will talk to you when she thinks your child is ready.
