At JT Dance in Warrington, our musical theatre sessions are designed to build confidence, creativity and stagecraft in a supportive, fun environment. Students work towards our annual show, giving them a real performance goal to aim for.

Each term focuses on a different show or theme, keeping sessions fresh and exciting. Students might be working on a Grease medley one term and a Matilda number the next.
Our musical theatre classes are open to students aged 10 and above. No previous experience in singing, acting or dance is needed — just enthusiasm and a love of performing! Many students who take ballet or tap classes also join musical theatre to develop their all-round performance skills.
We get asked this a lot! Modern theatre is a pure dance discipline — it's all about technique, expression and movement quality (ISTD syllabus). Musical theatre combines dance with singing and acting — it's about storytelling and performance. Modern theatre technique forms the dance foundation for musical theatre, which is why many students benefit from taking both.
A typical musical theatre session includes:
Comfortable clothing that allows free movement — tracksuit bottoms or leggings and a fitted top work well. Jazz shoes or clean trainers. Bring a water bottle and come ready to have fun! Hair should be tied back securely.
The highlight of the year! All musical theatre students perform in our annual show on a real stage in front of family, friends and the local community. It's an incredible experience that builds confidence, teamwork and memories that last a lifetime. Past shows have featured numbers from Annie, Grease, The Greatest Showman and more.
Our musical theatre classes are for students aged 10 and above. Younger children can join our baby ballet (from age 2) and junior classes to build their dance foundations first.
No prior singing experience is needed! We teach vocal technique as part of the class, and group singing means everyone can join in with confidence. Solo opportunities are available for those who want them.
Absolutely not! Musical theatre is for everyone. Some of the biggest West End stars are male performers. We welcome boys and girls equally and our classes are a supportive space for all.
Musical theatre at JT Dance is performance-focused rather than exam-based. The annual show is the main goal, giving students real stage experience. For graded exams, students can take our ISTD modern theatre or RAD ballet classes alongside.
All classes take place at the JT Dance studio in Cinnamon Brow, Warrington, WA2 0SU. We have free on-site parking and are accessible by bus (route 25) or a short drive from Birchwood station.
